The Religion Today Film Festival in Camerota with the Kamaraton Film Festival award. Andrea Morghen (artistic director of Religion Today Film Festival) and Paola Pannicelli (Rai Fiction) will accompany the jurors in understanding the works.
Born in 1997 as the first Italian festival of spiritual cinema and interreligious dialogue, for a culture of peace and dialogue between people, populations, faiths and cultures, the Religion Today Film Festival arrives in Camerota.
In fact, from 13 to 15 October, in the church of San Nicola, one of the stages of the festival will take place, organized in collaboration with Don Andrea Sorrentino:
“Hosting the Religion Today Film Festival in Camerota is a source of pride and gratitude for me: “pride” because it is an event that projects us towards universality and the awareness that our territory can and must progress towards the common good; it is a project that places at the center of the discussion the theme of dialogue between peoples, of conviviality and peace in the world; this festival opens us to new horizons, to new cultures and to feeling ourselves to be a truly integral part of the human family created by God; “gratitude”, instead, towards those who have placed their trust in me, in this path of collaboration: to my dear friend Lia Beltrami, founder of the festival and activist in the world for interreligious dialogue and for peace in the world; to Alberto Beltrami, president of the Religion Today Film Festival; Andrea Morghen, artistic director with whom, since 2006, when I was parish priest in Sant'Angelo a Fasanella, we have worked closely. I am very happy that, starting this year, Camerota and the entire Cilento area will become part of this wonderful international circuit”.
Organized by BiancoNero, a non-profit cultural association from Trentino, the festival renews its “journey into differences” every year: of cults, beliefs, worldviews, but also of styles and languages, for mutual enrichment in mutual comparison and knowledge.
Alongside the film competition, Religion Today offers spaces for discussion and exchange, with a “coexistence laboratory” between filmmakers and cultural operators of different faiths and nationalities. Each edition explores a theme of the year and includes special events, moments of scientific study and activities for schools of all levels.
This 25th edition of the competition was attended by thousands of participants from all over the world, regardless of ethnicity, culture or religion.
The Camerota stage will also see the establishment of the Kamaraton Film Festival award: the popular jury, present during the evenings, will vote for the best documentary, short film or themed film.
"What will be held in Camerota is an after-festival, with a popular jury that will be called to vote and assign the Kamaraton Film Festival award. I hope that, also thanks to events like this, our territory becomes a cradle that welcomes and opens the doors of its heart to dialogue, respect and conviviality".
THE PROGRAM
It starts on the 13th, at 21:00 pm, with the screening of the trailer of the 25th anniversary of the Religion Today Film Festival, followed by the screening of the winning film at the Trento stage of the festival; it continues on the 14th, from 18:00 pm, with the screening of the films in competition and voting, while at 21:00 pm there will be a musical debate and the screening of a documentary; the 15th is a full day, with a guided tour of the FAI autumn day in Camerota and Lentiscosa (from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 16:00 pm to 19:00 pm), screening of the remaining films and voting (from 18:00 pm), until the conclusion of the festival, from 21:00 pm, with the awards ceremony and closing concert.
To help the jurors understand the works, Andrea Morghen (artistic director of Religion Today Film Festival) and Paola Pannicelli (works for Rai Fiction as a producer following various television series; collaborates with TVMovie, Rai2, Rai 3, Radio3; created the docuseries “Boez” and various documentaries and television series; is currently working on the production of a docuseries, created by her which, like “Boez”, tells about recovery paths aimed at helping youth distress).

Born in 1997 as the first Italian festival of spiritual cinema and interreligious dialogue, in 2022 Religion Today Film Festival will celebrate its XNUMXth anniversary, an important and challenging milestone that leads us to look behind us, to measure our path.
The Religion Today festival has come a long way, and today this event with religious cinema is known and appreciated all over the world, has many admirers and friends, and makes films travel, but above all people and ideas. Religion Today allows us to consolidate the image of Trentino as a land that has tied its fate to one of the most significant events in the spiritual history of the West - the Council of Trent - but that from those foundations has been able to renew itself with creativity, commitment and tenacity, becoming a land of welcome, interreligious dialogue, solidarity and peace.
25 years ago, the themes of migration and multiculturalism, now part of the fabric of an increasingly interconnected global community, were already in the air, even if they had not yet achieved the attention they deserve. Others had yet to show themselves and explode with force and destructive violence, the turning point of September 11, the alleged "clash of civilizations" that began there, the wars and humanitarian emergencies that have shocked the world.
In a world deeply troubled by a global pandemic that has sown death and disease, these themes are more current than ever and impose the need to fight the virus of selfishness and fear. Inject into today's society strong antibodies capable of fighting the germs of racism, radicalism, extremism that threaten our community from within, that foment hatred instead of promoting dialogue.
Religion Today is even more current, necessary to give space to ideas and all religions, filtering them through the art of cinema and its great protagonists, narrators of our time.
