After a crowded public meeting at Palazzo Giusso, home of the university The Oriental of Naples, the students decided to occupy the building to take a stand against 41bis, in solidarity with Alfredo Cospito, the anarchist detained under a harsh prison regime who has been on hunger strike for over 100 days.
“This occupation is part of a broader mobilization that we are seeing in this country,” explains a student, “not only in solidarity with Alfredo’s hunger strike, but also against the inhumane conditions of Italian prisons.”
An occupation that follows the one a week ago of the Faculty of Letters at Sapienza University in Rome.
The assembly held today by the students lasted about two hours and saw the participation of about a hundred kids. “During the assembly we evaluated what is happening. Then afterwards we decided to do something also to draw attention, as has already happened in other cities in Italy”, explains one of the kids who from this evening will be the principal of Palazzo Giusso.
“We are alongside Cospito who is protesting – he adds – we are against 41 bis which is a measure that must be abolished immediately”. Tomorrow the students will also hold a press conference to illustrate their initiative.
