“The gazebos installed by bars and restaurants in the neighborhood Vomero, now, almost completely occupy all pedestrian areas, in particular those of via Scarlatti and via Luca Giordano. Unfortunately, nothing has changed since March 2022, the year in which I already raised the issue.
Despite the fact that Article 20 of the Highway Code states that in residential areas the occupation of sidewalks by kiosks, newsstands or other installations may be permitted up to a maximum of half their width, provided that they are adjacent to buildings and provided that an area for pedestrian circulation of no less than 2 m wide remains free, structures of disproportionate size, whose authorizations should be promptly verified, are increasingly widespread”.
Diego Venanzoni, regional councilor of Campania, wrote in a note: “Huge gazebos that I would define as open-air apartments, in fact limit the possibility – he adds – of pedestrians to be able to walk freely. Given that the rules, fortunately, exist, let them be enforced with greater interventions and controls by the competent bodies”.
