The religious function will be officiated by the parish priest of Pozzuoli, Father Mario Russo and the parish priest of Monteforte, Don Fabio Mauriello. The mayor of Pozzuoli, Gigi Manzoni and the mayor of Monteforte, Costantino Giordano, will be present. Manzoni will also lay a cushion of flowers in front of the stele with the names of the victims of the accident.
On Saturday 29th, instead, at 18 pm the mayor of Pozzuoli will lay a cushion of flowers at the foot of the monument to the victims in Piazzale del Ricordo in Pozzuoli and at 19 pm a mass will be celebrated by Don Tonino Russo in the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie. “This year marks the tenth anniversary of a tragedy that will remain in the memory and hearts of all Pozzuoli people – said Manzoni – This year too the city is gathered in grief around the families of the victims of the accident in which so many, too many of our fellow citizens lost their lives. I am moved by the presence of Don Mario Russo, who lost some family members in the accident and will celebrate a mass in remembrance in Acqualonga, on July 28th.
I thank the mayor of Monteforte Irpino Costantino Giordano who keeps alive the memory of our loved ones and all the police forces of the Irpinia city who provided assistance to the victims, who still have them in their eyes and hearts and who are present at the ceremony every year".
