The Rione Terra lights up during the Christmas holidays thanks to the wide range of activities organized by Puteoli Sacra, a project coordinated by the Fondazione CED Regina Pacis directed by Gennaro Pagano, with the support of Fondazione Con il Sud.
Guided tours with Artemisia Gentileschi, workshops and convivial moments in the name of art, culture and archaeology.
It all starts with guided tours on Saturday and Sunday that will feature Artemisia Gentileschi who will accompany guests on a 2500-year journey, entering the Cathedral of San Procolo Martire which incorporates the marble columns of the temple of Augustus, and with the ceiling that reproduces the sky and the constellations of the landing of San Paolo in Pozzuoli.
Inside, you can admire a very precious seventeenth-century picture gallery, with works by – among others – Giovanni Lanfranco, Cesare Fracanzano and Massimo Stanzione. The tour then continues to the Diocesan Museum, with a room dedicated to Artemisia Gentileschi with the canvases “Saints Procolo and Nicea”, “San Gennaro nell'Anfiteatro”, and “The Adoration of the Magi”. During the visit, you can also admire an eighteenth-century style nativity scene.
At the end, during a convivial moment with tea and biscuits, Artemisia will tell her story, that of a woman who managed to obtain a success unthinkable for a painter of the time, even facing a terrible story of violence suffered. On December 30, instead, it will end with a toast of good wishes with sparkling wine and panettone.
There will also be space for initiatives dedicated to the little ones with workshops dedicated to families in the name of fun and discovery scheduled for December 17th.
During the week from December 24th to 31st, the guided tour will have a special focus on the Adoration of the Shepherds by Cesare Fracanzano, while from January 1st to 6th it will focus on the Adoration of the Magi by Artemisia Gentileschi – two works of extraordinary value kept in Puteoli Sacra.
The site is easily reachable by public transport, by Cumana and Circumflegrea or by Metro Line 2, by car via the ring road (exit via Campana) or from via Napoli. 10 minutes from the Port of Pozzuoli, 5 minutes from Piazza della Repubblica. Infopoint in via duomo in Rione Terra.
Puteoli Sacra is the first experience in Europe to provide for the management of an archaeological and historical-artistic heritage by young people and women from the penal area, which in two years of life has trained 16 of them to place 8 of them in work with internship and apprenticeship contracts that can be transformed into permanent contracts with the Regina Pacis Cooperative.
The project is also supported by the Giglio Foundation, the Eduardo De Filippo Foundation, the Association of Building Contractors of Naples – ACEN, the Italian Province of the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette, and Ance Campania.
