Farewell to Superintendent Nicola Barbato, hero of the State Police: Nicola Barbato, 61, gold medal for civil valor, died due to complications related to a respiratory disease.
In 2015, Barbato was wounded by gunshots during an anti-racket operation in the Fuorigrotta neighborhood of Napoli, by an extortionist linked to the Camorra. The agent, together with a colleague, was trying to arrest the man responsible.
His injuries had confined him to a wheelchair, but they had never diminished his commitment and determination in fighting crime.
The news of his passing has prompted an outpouring of condolences from both his colleagues and the online community.
The Barbato family, composed of his wife Angela and his children Giovanna and Luigi, have received numerous gestures of solidarity and affection from all over the world.

Nicola Barbato's funeral will be held at 16 pm tomorrow, March 10, 2024, in the parish church of San Giovanni Evangelista in Teverola, in the province of Caserta, the city of which he was an honorary citizen.
