They wanted to kill him to “send a signal” to the family: they stabbed him in various parts of the body and then walked away thinking they had accomplished their mission of death.
Giuseppe Verde, 54 years old with a criminal record but not tied to organized crime, was between life and death for a few weeks. More than a month after that cursed evening of February 29th, he still bears the marks of those wounds but is alive. And this morning the police arrested the two who tried to kill him.
They are Alfonso Attanasio, 26 years old, and Giuseppe Catone, 42 years old, both accused of attempted aggravated murder.
The precautionary measure was issued following the investigations conducted by the Flying Squad of Napoli and from the Vicaria-Mercato Police Station in relation to the attempted murder of a 54-year-old which occurred following a brutal attack which took place on 29 February in via Cesare Rosaroll.
On the evening of the ambush, the designated victim was attacked by two uncovered individuals who, on two motorcycles, first verbally insulted him and then attacked him with knives, stabbing him in the abdomen and lower limbs.
As a result of the injuries suffered, the victim had to undergo complex surgery for “5 wounds to the lower limbs with sutures to some veins and 1 to the abdomen, which severed the intestine”.
The identification of the two arrested this morning was possible thanks to the images of the local video surveillance systems and the statements of some witnesses present at the scene of the accident.
The motive for the attack is still under investigation and appears to be related to previous tensions between the victim's family and the suspects.
