Mario and Sara Borrata, brother and sister of Casal di Principe and sons of a well-known member of the Casalesi clan, were arrested for corruption, receiving stolen goods and unauthorized access to communication devices by detainees.
According to the Public Prosecutor's Office of Santa Maria Capua Vetere, the two allegedly bribed the former provincial guarantor of prisoners, Emanuela Belcuore, to obtain preferential treatment in prison for Mario, sentenced to life imprisonment for theMurder of Pietro Capone.
In exchange for favors, Mario Borrata allegedly gave Belcuore a pair of Gucci shoes and his sister Sara gave her 1.000 euros. Furthermore, Belcuore allegedly warned Mario of an imminent search of his cell to allow him to hide an illegally detained cell phone.
A romantic relationship behind the scenes
The investigation, conducted by deputy prosecutor Gionata Fiore, started from some service notes of the penitentiary police of the Santa Maria Capua Vetere prison and from the activities of the central investigative unit. According to the investigators, Belcuore and Mario Borrata had a sentimental relationship, and it was precisely by virtue of this bond that the woman allegedly worked to obtain favors for the prisoner.
Belcuore allegedly pressured the prison director and a supervisory magistrate to obtain a “positive service relationship” for Mario Borrata. The pressure, however, was unsuccessful.
