Essay insights
The book “Lenin, the Absolute Revolutionary (1870-1924)”, published one hundred years after the death of Vladimir Ilyich Ulyanov, alias Lenin, examines the various aspects of his thought and action. The volume highlights his fight against all forms of exploitation, his vision of an inclusive nation and his role in the foundation of a Communist International. However, the book does not omit the shortcomings of Lenin's theory, such as the absence of a true theory of the socialist state and the inability to counter the Soviet bureaucracy that would have led to an authoritarian involution. The essay offers a complex and multifaceted vision of the “absolute revolutionary”, highlighting both his utopias and the limits of his political strategies, which profoundly marked the twentieth century.
