Last night in Avellino, the Carabinieri arrested a 25-year-old and a 27-year-old, both originally from the city and already known to the police, on charges of attempted aggravated robbery and illegal possession of a clandestine weapon.
In the afternoon, the two entered a supermarket armed with a gun and with their faces covered by helmets Mercato San Severino, in the province of Salerno. After threatening an employee to get her to hand over the takings, the woman, visibly frightened, had difficulty opening the electronic cash register.
The two robbers then fled on a high-powered scooter. When the alarm was raised, the Carabinieri of Mercato San Severino and Fisciano managed to intercept the motorbike on the Salerno-Avellino motorway link.
After a long chase, the two suspects managed to disappear for a short time, but the security device activated by the operations centers of the nearby Companies allowed all the main escape routes to be blocked.
Thanks to this deployment of forces from the provincial command of the Carabinieri of Avellino, a patrol identified and stopped the fugitives. During the operation, one of the two attempted to get rid of the gun, throwing it under a car parked nearby.
The weapon, a semi-automatic pistol originally firing blanks but modified to make it offensive, was recovered by the Carabinieri and found complete with a magazine containing six bullets, ready for use.
During the search, the sum of 1.435 euros was found and seized, presumably the result of previous crimes, for which any further responsibilities are being verified. In the meantime, the two arrested were taken to the Bellizzi Irpino prison.
