Salerno. An accident shook the campus of the University of Salerno today, where a tree, a 15-meter tall maritime pine, fell under the force of gusts of wind, injuring five students. The episode occurred near the Faculty of Engineering, along the route used by students to reach the Tfa course.
According to eyewitnesses and comments on social media, the tree had been showing clear signs of danger since last February. “That tree has been dangerous since last February,” some students reported, highlighting the failure to prevent an obvious risk.
Among the injured, a student suffered serious injuries to the head and pelvis, and was rushed to the hospital by an ambulance from the “La Solidarietà” service in Fisciano. His condition is critical, with fractures to the pelvis and skull. Two other students were hospitalized with red code.

The rescue on site was coordinated by two teams of Fire fighters, one from the power station and the other from the Mercato San Severino detachment, who used a crane to remove the fallen branches and facilitate the intervention of the 118 paramedics.
The other four students involved suffered minor injuries, but the incident has raised a strong sense of alarm and concern among the university community. Following the incident, the academic authorities have started immediate checks on the entire tree population on campus to prevent further dangers.
This tragic event re-emphasizes the importance of regular maintenance and preventative monitoring to ensure safety in high-traffic public spaces such as university campuses.

It is a real shame that this incident happened at the university. It was already known that the tree was dangerous and I do not understand why they did not do anything before. Safety should be a priority for everyone, especially in crowded places.
