Udu Napoli's alarm: no house to be found for students and workers
The initiative "Naples is not a B&B“, promoted by Udu Napoli, denounces the housing emergency that afflicts the city. “Finding a home has become a titanic undertaking for students, workers and anyone looking for accommodation,” say the promoters. The uncontrolled growth of tourism, combined with the lack of institutional responses, is worsening the situation every month.
The appeal is clear: "Remaining inhabitants must be a right. We ask for a regulation on the number of houses intended for short-term rentals, divided by neighborhood, and the introduction of the agreed rent also for rentals of less than 30 days".
Stop Speculation: The Right to Housing Comes First
The campaign message aims to stop real estate speculation and the dominance of the private sector. Activists are calling for greater investment in public housing and a concrete guarantee of the right to housing. The uncontrolled proliferation of lockboxes and B&Bs risks distorting the social fabric of the city.
A Naples “Disneyland for tourists”: the complaint of the Cgil
“Tourism is devastating Naples, both from a cultural and residential point of view”, declares Raffaele Paudice, secretary of the CGIL Naples and Campania. “Workers and students are being expelled from the historic center, which is being transformed into a Disneyland for tourists.”
Paudice strongly supports the Udu initiative, reiterating the need to regulate the phenomenon. “We need to reduce the number of B&Bs and intervene on lockboxes, as already done in other Italian cities, starting with Florence,” he says.
The request for action to the Municipality of Naples
“The city and the municipal administration must give a concrete signal,” concludes Paudice. “We are ready to fight so that courageous measures are taken to bring the situation back to legality and protect the residents of Naples.”

I read that in Naples there are problems with b&bs and lockboxes, but I don't know if it's all that serious. There are a lot of tourists and maybe they also bring benefits to the economy. We should find a balance.
You are right, but we cannot forget that many people cannot find a home anymore, and this is a serious problem for those who have lived there for a long time.
Yes, but touristification can also bring new job opportunities. However, we need to understand how to manage this situation without harming residents.
