The mayor of Pimonte, Francesco Somma, wrote a letter to the governor of Campania, Vincenzo De Luca, expressing “deep regret and concern” for the closure of the “Casa di Maria”, a facility affiliated with the ASL, “for years a point of reference for families and people with mental health problems”.
The Casa di Maria, writes the mayor, "for our community and for the entire territory represents an element of great importance both on an economic and social level. From an economic point of view, it has generated a significant induced thanks to the commitment of qualified personnel, most of whom are citizens of Pimonte, mainly women, who will hardly find a new job, especially because of their age.
The closure of the facility also compromises the activity of several local businesses that, by providing food and materials necessary for the management of the Casa di Maria, contribute to its operation and, at the same time, to the economy of the area. From a social point of view - continues the mayor - the value of the facility is inestimable. The guests of the Casa di Maria, fragile people with mental health problems, have found a PIMONTE not only hospitality, but also a community that supported their social inclusion and recovery.
The small size of our town has allowed them to fully integrate, receiving adequate care and, above all, that closeness and human warmth that are fundamental to their rehabilitation process”. According to the mayor, “the closure of this facility does not only represent a loss for our territory, but also irreparable damage for these people and their families, who would be deprived of a place where they found support and serenity.
I trust in your sensitivity to these issues - Somma writes to De Luca - and I invite you to consider possible solutions to avoid the closure of the Casa di Maria or to identify measures that can safeguard both the workers and the guests of the facility. As a last resort, we are available to collaborate to identify an alternative, making available another building in our Municipality that could host the facility, ensuring continuity of the services and mission of the Casa di Maria".
