Marcellina - Carabinieri of Marcellina station have put an end to a scam against aelderly of 81 years old, with the arrest of two teenagers of only 15 years old from Naples.
The operation took place during a routine territorial control service in the center of the small town in the province of Rome. The soldiers, suspicious of a reckless maneuver of a car, attempted to stop it, but the driver tried to escape by taking the wrong road.
Promptly stopped, the two young men were found in possession of numerous jewels, silver objects and precious goods, including a commemorative gold medal engraved with the name of the deceased husband of the victim. In addition, they had with them 850 euros in cash.
The scam was based on a fake car accident involving the pensioner's daughter, who had been contacted by scammers who asked her for 12.000 euros to "resolve" the situation. To keep the elderly woman busy and isolated, other accomplices, posing as a lawyer and a sergeant of the Carabinieri of Tivoli, prolonged the telephone conversation.
The two minors managed to convince theelderly to hand over his family jewels, valued at around 15.000 euros, and the cash. The Carabinieri reconstructed the entire story, leading to the arrest of the young people, who were transferred to the Casal del Marmo First Reception Center by order of the Juvenile Judicial Authority of Rome. The car used by the scammers was found to have been rented in the province of Naples by an individual with a criminal record for fraud and robbery, suggesting the existence of a larger network of accomplices. Investigations continue to identify all participants in this sophisticated scam.

It's really bad that there are people who defraud elderly people like this 81 year old lady. The police did a good job in stopping these guys. I hope they also find the accomplices and that justice is done.
