Carabinieri lieutenant Giuseppe Improta, 58 years old, originally from Teverola, arrested yesterday on charges of aggravated corruption: he allegedly received a fixed salary of one thousand euros and bonuses for providing confidential information to the 167 clan of Arzano.
He was stopped by his own colleagues at the Arzano station. According to the Anti-Mafia District Directorate, the soldier would have regularly collected money but also other favors such as spare parts for his car, from the local clan in exchange for confidential information on the investigations.
The agreement included a fixed salary of one thousand euros per month, in addition to sums ranging between 2 and 3 thousand euros, as well as personal favors, such as maintenance and car repairs for himself and his family.
In exchange, the carabiniere would have warned the clan of the operations in progress, facilitating the boss's fugitive status and failing to notify judicial measures. Among the accusations made by the DDA also the falsification of good conduct reports for the clan leader, when the latter was under special surveillance.
Giuseppe and Mariano were arrested together with the soldier Monfregolo and Aldo Bianco, believed to be members of the 167 clan. Two collaborators of justice are also involved in the investigations, currently under investigation at large. The contested facts are said to have taken place between 2015 and 2023.
Accused of continued corruption in competition
Those arrested must now answer to the charge of continued corruption in competition, aggravated by having favored a mafia organization. A hard blow for the Arma, which now has to deal with yet another case of internal infidelity.

This news is very worrying and shows how there are serious problems in the police force. It is difficult to believe that a carabiniere could be involved in something like this, but unfortunately it is not new.
