Naples – “The most recent data “coming from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology tell us that the trend has not changed compared to the past and this is a positive fact, which should not cause us alarm”.
The mayor of Napoli Gaetano Manfredi, answering journalists' questions on the bradyseismic situation of the Campi Flegrei, on the sidelines of the inaugural ceremony of the “Train of Remembrance” 2025, a project promoted by the Minister for Sport and Youth, Andrea Abodi, at platform 14 of Naples Central Station.
“The data,” Manfredi explained, “tell us that there are no signs of changes in either the ground uplift indicators or the geochemical measurements.” “I realize that feeling these tremors creates great concern, but,” Manfredi concluded, “we must be confident because there are no risks from a static point of view. If there were any alarm situations, we will warn the citizens immediately.”
The tremors that occurred yesterday and yesterday did not cause any damage, except for some sporadic falling debris. The mayor explained that inspections are constantly underway, precisely to take stock of the condition of public buildings.
“This morning we undertook a massive inspection intervention in all public structures, starting with schools, in the areas of interest both those under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Naples and the Metropolitan City – said Manfredi -. I personally went to do some inspections. We went to the schools closest to the area of interest and up to today no damage has been detected”. ”
The same operation – he added – is being carried out in the sports facilities, at the San Paolo stadium, at the Mostra d'Oltremare. The activities are in full swing, without having highlighted any damage to the facilities at the moment”.
In any case, the Municipality, Manfredi explained, is also "organizing to create a possible reception area for those who are afraid of staying at home and want to spend the night in emergency conditions but with better reception". Manfredi then reiterated that "we are in a phase that can continue for months".
“The central theme is to manage the safety of buildings on the one hand and to live with these phenomena on the other, trying to maintain normality,” he added. “For this reason, we have proceeded to close schools only in areas affected by a real assessment of any damage that has not occurred, and we have kept transport fully operational after the necessary checks.”
