Naples – The footballer Armando Izzo, currently playing for Monza, was fully acquitted of the charges of external competition with mafia association and sports fraud aggravated by mafia methods.
The decision was made by Court of Appeal of Naples (president Giovanni Carbone, reporting judge Alberto Maria Picardi), who established that "the fact does not exist" for the accusation of complicity with the Vanella Grassi clan of Secondigliano and that Izzo “did not commit the act” with regards to the hypothesis of fixing the match between Modena and Avellino on 17 May 2014, valid for the Serie B championship.
The footballer: "I have always had faith in justice"
Visibly relieved, the defender commented: "I am very satisfied with the sentence. I have always had faith in justice and I will never stop thanking my lawyers, Alfredo Capuano, Salvatore Nugnes and Stefano Montone, who have always believed in me."
Izzo also addressed a thought to his family: “I thank my wife Concetta, my children, my mother and my father, who passed away from leukemia when I was just 10 years old. They are the ones who gave me the strength to fight this battle”.
Finally, a special thanks to his current company: “Thanks to Monza, to Dr. Adriano Galliani and to the knight Silvio Berlusconi. Despite the ongoing trial, they have always had faith in me”.

It is a decision that makes you reflect on the judicial system in Italy. I hope that justice can truly take its course and that similar cases will never happen again. Izzo has been through difficult times.
