Naples – High definition child pornography videos available in exchange for cryptocurrencies or by uploading new illegal content: this is what emerged from the investigation by the State Police, and coordinated by the Naples Prosecutor's Office, started thanks to the data provided by German investigators after the discovery of the platform “KidFlix” on the dark web.
Users had two options to access content: pay in cryptocurrencies or contribute to the archive by uploading other child pornography material, thus fueling a global criminal system.
The platform offered afree low quality preview, while for the complete viewing of videos – often characterized by violent scenes with minors – a higher payment was necessary.
The first suspects identified in the province of Caserta
The investigation of Italian Postal Police led to the identification of fifteen Italian users, reported by German investigators. The searches conducted by the Cyber Security Operations Centers in different regions have led to the arrests of four people, including the first suspects identified in the Caserta.
The operation, which is part of a wider international collaboration coordinated by Europol, confirms the increasingly central role of the cryptocurrency in the trafficking of child pornography and the use of Dark web as a tool to evade law enforcement controls.
