Dfter the 4.6 magnitude earthquake that struck the Campi Flegrei area, the Minister for Civil Protection and Maritime Policies, Nello Musumeci, took stock of the interventions underway and institutional responsibilities.
In particular, he specified that the collapse of the cliff of the islet of Pennata Tip it had not been included among the emergencies listed in the Extraordinary Commissioner's Plan.
“Today I spoke with the prefect of Naples and the mayors of Pozzuoli and Bacoli, who immediately took action together with our Civil Protection Department to decide on the initiatives to be adopted after the earthquake.
It is important to clarify – Musumeci stated – that the collapse of the Punta Pennata ridge is not recorded by the Campania Region nor reported by the Municipality of Bacoli among the emergencies included in the government-funded Commissioner Plan”.
The minister then recalled that the plan managed by the National Civil Protection is linked to the program for the removal of the population in the event of serious events and that emergency planning must be distinguished from the competences on hydrogeological instability, which remain the responsibility of the President of the Region, in his capacity as commissioner delegated with funds provided by the Ministry of the Environment.
Musumeci finally announced that the government has allocated over 10 million euros for the safety of the Cento Camerelle ridge, in the same Phlegraean area. “The intervention was financed by the Meloni government with 10.730.000 euros. The commissioner structure is proceeding with the review and updating of the final project, dating back to 2022 and provided by the Municipality. Immediately after, the construction of the work will begin”, concluded the minister.

The article is interesting, but I don't understand why the collapse was not registered as an emergency. It is important that there are resources ready for these situations. Let's hope that the interventions are effective and timely.
I agree that prevention is essential, but sometimes it seems that institutions do not have a clear vision of what is needed. More needs to be done for the safety of the population.
It is a shame to see that after such a serious event there are still gaps in emergency management. Communication between the various bodies must certainly be improved to avoid future problems.
