Via Correra, the site of the shootings
A seemingly normal evening in the heart of Naples was abruptly interrupted, shortly before midnight yesterday, by a serious incident. A gunfight broke out on Via Francesco Saverio Correra, in the Cavone area, resulting in the involuntary wounding of two young women who were walking along the street.
The two girls, aged 23 and 24, were struck by bullets in their legs. Quickly assisted by 118 paramedics, they were rushed to the CTO emergency room.
According to medical reports, the 24-year-old underwent surgery to remove a bullet from her left thigh; she is expected to be hospitalized for 20 days. The 23-year-old remains hospitalized to monitor the progress of her injuries. Fortunately, neither woman is in danger of dying.
Carabinieri officers from the Central Company, supported by members of the Naples Investigative Unit's Scientific Investigations Section, responded to the scene of the incident and the hospital. The specialists conducted the necessary technical surveys to reconstruct the trajectory of the shots and collect material evidence useful for identifying the individuals involved in the collision.
Authorities are currently working to determine the nature of the firefight. A key aspect highlighted by investigators concerns the profile of the two victims: both Neapolitans with no criminal record, the young women were found to be completely unrelated to any criminal activity. It would therefore have been purely accidental involvement in a complex situation, which law enforcement intends to fully investigate as quickly as possible.
