The San Gaetano district
Naples – A warning shot shatters the apparent calm and shakes the apartment buildings of Miano. Carabinieri officers from the Vomero Company responded last night to the San Gaetano district, surrounded by public housing complexes in the northern suburbs, following reports of several gunshots fired in the street.
Arriving near block 13, the officers cordoned off the area and recovered four 9mm shell casings embedded in the asphalt. Initial investigations revealed no damage to vehicles or building facades, and no injuries were reported to nearby emergency rooms.
This dynamic leaves several avenues open: from the classic "demonstrative" shooting to a targeted warning to some prominent figure in the neighborhood. The investigation is now being entrusted to Carabinieri investigators, who are working on ballistics measurements and analyzing images from the area's video surveillance systems.
Last night's raid comes amid a long-destabilized territorial landscape. Following the disintegration of the Lo Russo clan, the historic "Capitoni" stronghold has become a playground for rival mini-factions and young talents seeking a foothold.
Complicating the investigation is the criminal axis between the suburbs of Naples and the Milanese hinterland, which has always been a strategic hub for money laundering and drug trafficking for gangs originating from the northern area.
What's frightening law enforcement is the potential domino effect: the release from prison of prominent figures active in the Lombardy region could have rekindled old resentments over control of illicit trafficking. The four bullets in Block 13 could be just the first sign of a realignment of power between those intent on reclaiming the square and those unwilling to back down.
