Giugliano, "Daddy, no": 6-year-old boy hugs his father to stop him from beating his ex-girlfriend.
It's a scene that speaks louder than words to the brutality of gender-based violence. A six-year-old boy hugs his father, not seeking comfort, but trying to quell his anger. "Daddy, no, daddy, no," he repeats. But the man pushes him away and lashes out at his ex-partner.
It happened in Giugliano in Campania, late yesterday afternoon. It was almost 5:00 PM when the woman fell to the ground under a barrage of kicks and punches. The attacker didn't even spare her face. She screamed, calling for help, calling out the name of a neighbor. But the violence continued.
Now, after this latest episode, the 32-year-old has been sent to prison. The victim, however, was taken to the hospital, where doctors also diagnosed a fractured rib. She was discharged with a 30-day prognosis.
Behind the attack is a story the victim told to the Carabinieri at the Pozzuoli station. It wasn't, in fact, the first incident. The woman described months and years of harassment and a situation that, according to her complaint, began at least as early as 2023.
From then on, she began to live in fear, looking around every time she left the house, fearing that she would be followed or attacked.
A fear that, despite the separation, never completely disappeared. The woman is now in a new relationship, but her ex-partner, according to what investigators reported, continued to exhibit stalking behavior.
And it's the six-year-old son himself who makes the whole situation even more dramatic. The little boy witnesses the fight and tries to intervene to stop his father. He hugs him, tries to hold him back, and tells him to stop.
A desperate and instinctive gesture by a child who finds himself a witness to violence between his parents.
But the man doesn't stop. First he pushes his son, then he turns on the woman again.
The story reached the Carabinieri a few hours later. It was just after 10:00 PM when the victim reached the Pozzuoli Carabinieri station and reported what had happened.
The officers took his statement and immediately began searching for his ex-partner. The 32-year-old was tracked down and arrested in flagrante delicto.
The charges include stalking and assault. The man was transferred to prison, where he awaits a court appearance to give his version of events.
The story once again brings to light the tragedy of violence against women and those relationships transformed by control, fear, and aggression. And, this time, with a six-year-old boy forced to try to stop his father from beating his mother.
