Giugliano. Stop admissions to the orthopedic department of the San Giuliano hospital due to a sudden shortage of orthopedic doctors. From September 28th until the beginning of November, the orthopedic department of the San Giuliano hospital will no longer accept patients in the ordinary hospitalization regime. The news was announced by the ASL Napoli 2 Nord. In fact, since the beginning of this week, five doctors who worked in the department have passed away. Currently, the orthopedic department of Giugliano, equipped with 16 beds, can only count on the acting head physician and a second doctor working part-time. For this reason, since last Saturday, arrivals to the department through 118 have been suspended and the suspension of already scheduled interventions has been planned. "We are aware of how heavy the decision we have taken is and we are grateful to the trade unions and the municipal administration for the responsibility and collaboration highlighted - said Antonio d'Amore, general director of the ASL Napoli 2 Nord - This is not the closure of the department, but only a downsizing of activities for a short period of time, in order to guarantee the safety of care and good management of patients. A condition in which approximately 80% of the doctors in the department were to pass away at the same time was not foreseeable, but by virtue of the planning that we had started months ago, we expect to bring in new and competent forces in the coming weeks. The goal we have set ourselves is to reactivate hospitalizations in orthopedics from the first days of November, continuing to guarantee the good level of care that has always been recognized in the department".
