A large fire broke out in the San Rocco valley in Naples, in an area between Capodimonte and Miano, in the northern part of the city.
The flames attacked brushwood and vegetation but did not affect the nearby Capodimonte woods, one of the city's green lungs. Already in the early afternoon - the fire broke out shortly after 14 pm - four teams of local firefighters rushed to the scene with various vehicles, assisted in the extinguishing action by two Canadairs (which took water from the Beverello pier, crossing the city centre at low altitude throughout the afternoon) and three helicopters.
The fire has not yet been completely extinguished, however - we learn from the Naples fire brigade - it has been contained and we are moving towards a positive solution. The work of the firefighters was complicated by the difficulty in accessing the area affected by the flames due to the narrow and dirt roads. The help of air vehicles was therefore essential to get to the bottom of the fire. No homes were involved. Investigations are underway to ascertain the nature of the fire.
