A million di vehicles transited from July 18th to August 8th, with a daily peak of around 43 thousand transits, 270 thousand pedestrians passed over the course of 21 days: these are the numbers that emerge from the survey of the vehicular traffic e pedestrian in Amalfi Coast started by the Amalfi Coast Tourism Development Network, operational arm of the Amalfi Coast Tourist District.
The initiative was born from “Tourism and Roads” project promoted by Tourism Development Network with the co-financing of the Chamber of Commerce of Salerno and with the collaboration of Confindustria Salerno. A network of 12 sensors, installed starting from Vietri sul Mare and reaching all the way to Positano without forgetting the mountain accesses such as the Valico di Chiunzi, since mid-July has been monitoring the flow of vehicles and people at strategic points in all the towns of the Amalfi Coast.
As for vehicular traffic, it is made up of 94% auto e minivan, 5% of motorcycle and 1% of bus while pedestrian traffic is 68% made up of men, 32% are instead women, with the pre-eminence of two specific age groups: adults and seniors.
“We are consolidating a model of sustainable management of the territory and tourist flows linked to full knowledge of the data and phenomena – explains the president of the Amalfi Coast Tourist Development Network Andrea Ferraioli - as already done with tourist presences, which for the first time are being recorded in a stable form with our Destination Amalfi Coast platform; also for the circulation of vehicles and people we have started a system for calculating real flows thanks to which we have precise data, which are a starting point. We will share them with local administrations, networking, so that we can intervene on the situation in a comprehensive manner and with full knowledge of the facts. The same territorial ZTL project can find an important database in this information, because it gives the real measure of what it must channel. The data from August, compared with those from July, will give us a measure of the impact of the alternate license plate ordinance extended to every day. This makes us understand that the sensor network provides an important tool for analyzing the territory, for all its actors”.
