Two attacks on healthcare workers – one occurred at the Moscati hospital Avellino, the other at the San Paolo in Naples – were reported by the association “Nessuno tocchi Ippocrate”, the only observatory that collects reports of this kind.
At Moscati in Avellino, the one who fared the worst was a nurse on duty at the triage of the emergency room, and it was a colleague of the victim who made the story known on the association's Facebook page. "During the afternoon shift on August 3, a boy showed up at the triage accompanied by his brother, the latter in an apparent state of agitation.
The nurses begin to assess the patient and invite the brother to leave and go to the waiting room. The latter, instead of leaving the Triage, verbally and physically attacks the nurse by pushing him and trying to slap him. The police are immediately alerted. After 10 minutes both the patient and his brother leave the Emergency Room. Upon their arrival, the police drew up a report of what happened”.
Another episode at the San Paolo hospital in Naples, where "a patient - says the association's post - admitted for 'alcoholic intoxication' began to attack all the medical staff and even a patient lying on a stretcher. Stories of ordinary madness at the Phlegraean hospital".
There are no precise numbers on assaults in Campania hospitals, "because unfortunately - explains Manuel Ruggiero, president of the association and 118 doctor on duty in Pozzuoli - we rely on reports that come to us from the territory, and not everyone reports". In the city of Naples alone, 39 assaults on healthcare personnel have been counted since the beginning of the year, about twenty other reports have arrived from the rest of the region, but the feeling is that many more are happening.
