The 'clearing' operations of the dangerous rocks on Mount Epomeo began this morning in Ischia as part of the interventions following the Casamicciola flood last November.
During the morning, the workers of Sma Campania, which was in charge of the work, released about ten boulders (averaging 2 cubic meters in size) that were hanging in the highest part of the mountain and could roll down the valley, becoming dangerous.
The frozen ground of Epomeo has made it difficult for workers and climbers to reach the points where the rocks to be removed had been identified, so for the next week a helicopter will be used to reach the thawing areas.
In this phase of the work, the priority will be to secure the dangerous boulders, while later we will continue with the definitive stabilization of those boulders that cannot be removed but will instead be made non-dangerous by securing them with nets or other anchoring systems.
According to Commissioner Legnini, by the end of April, at the conclusion of the third phase of intervention on Epomeo, the safety of the mountainside overlooking the flooded areas of Casamicciola should be completed.
