Around 50.000 people checked, 9 arrested, 35 investigated, 80 fines issued, 15 minors tracked down: this is the result of the activity, in the month of May, of the Railway Police of the Department for Campania in the main stations and on board trains.
The checks, intensified due to the increased influx of travellers and tourists during this period, were carried out in collaboration with staff from the local Corporate Protection Office of FS Italiane which, through the use of a cutting-edge video surveillance system, allowed the passenger flows to be monitored with extreme efficiency and safety.
Among the activities to be highlighted by the Railway Police operators is the work of support and proximity to people in difficulty who frequent the railway environment. In particular, the men and women of the Specialty have tracked down 15 minors in the stations of Campania: young people who have escaped from the family homes to which they had been entrusted, fleeing for love or family problems, or victims of psychological distress, and who choose the train as a means of getting away.
Among the various stories, we remember that of a 10-year-old girl, at the Naples Central station with her father. While waiting for the train to depart, the father decides to smoke a cigarette, a moment of distraction and the train leaves. The man immediately alerts the police at the station: at the first stop, Caserta, the girl is entrusted to the operators of the local Polfer Subsection who immediately take care of calming her and reassuring her of the imminent arrival of her father who is already on the train to join her.
Two sisters aged 7 and 12, together on the train arriving in Benevento with their parents: the girls get off first, the parents linger in unloading their luggage and in the meantime the train leaves, first stop Foggia, the girls alone on the tracks. Here too, the intervention of the agents of the Polfer Post of Benevento was timely and, having assessed the return times from Foggia, they immediately contacted a relative of the little ones, resident in the area, waiting for their parents to return. The little sisters were also cared for and reassured by the police officers while waiting for their aunt.
A 5-year-old girl of Pakistani origin was immediately noticed by the patrol at the Naples Central station. She is alone, scared, but immediately reports her name to the police officers who broadcast a radio note to all the patrols at the station. Her father was looking for her in the station, had lost sight of her and had approached another patrol involved in control services at the Naples Central station to ask for help in finding her.
