A quintal of poorly preserved beef was seized late yesterday evening by the Highway Police of Avellino on the A16 Naples-Canosa at the Baiano toll booth. During the checks, in addition to the precarious hygienic-sanitary conditions, it was ascertained that the refrigerated van was not functioning properly and did not guarantee the maintenance of the temperature required for the transport of food.
The vehicle also turned out to have no insurance coverage. The driver, a Neapolitan merchant who was supposed to deliver the meat to a shop in Forino, was fined five thousand euros. The van was seized and, after the intervention of the ASL officials, the destruction of the meat was ordered.
