Eight months after the events, the Carabinieri of the company Torre Annunziata They arrested a twenty-year-old for fraud. The young man, together with an accomplice, pretended first to be a nephew and then a courier to convince an elderly woman to give him money and valuables.
The scam occurred on April 22nd in trecase. The twenty-year-old called the elderly woman, pretending to be her nephew, and told her he was being held at a post office. He then asked the woman to pay a large sum of money to a courier who would shortly show up at her home.
The elderly woman, frightened, gave in to the blackmail and handed over 1.000 euros in cash and some gold jewelry to the twenty-year-old's accomplice, who showed up pretending to be a courier.
Thanks to the video surveillance cameras present on site, the carabinieri were able to trace the scooter used by the scammers. The image of the motorcycle driver was compared with the photograph of the owner of the vehicle, which corresponded to the arrested twenty-year-old.
Investigations continue
The investigations have allowed to document that the twenty-year-old participated in the events as a companion and "lookout", with surveillance duties. The young man was then arrested and placed under house arrest. The investigations of the Carabinieri are still ongoing to identify the other accomplice in the scam.
