Naples. With the arrival of the warm weather and the official start of the summer season, Naples' beaches were overrun by tourists and locals who took advantage of Saturday to enjoy some relaxation by the sea.
At Mappatella Beach, the municipal administration has increased services for beachgoers by installing a platform to facilitate access to the sea, umbrellas, and a wheelchair to make bathing easier for people with disabilities.
In addition, the fountain has been reactivated and showers will be installed soon. Unfortunately, the day was marred by a theft: three girls, aged between 13 and 14, had their cell phones stolen.
Visit by Deputy Borrelli
The deputy of the Social Alliance, Fabio Borrelli, carried out an inspection at Mappatella Beach, Largo Sermoneta and Spiaggia delle Monache to verify the situation and the conditions of the beaches.
Carabinieri and Police at the Lido delle Monache
At the Lido delle Monache in Posillipo, patrols of Carabinieri and Police were deployed to ensure the safety of bathers and prevent crime.
Summer has begun, watch out for thefts
With the influx of people on the beaches, it's important to be careful with your personal belongings and not leave valuables unattended.

“A beautiful sunny day brought many people to the few free beaches in the city. During the inspection I was finally able to see a climate of serenity, tainted by small episodes that we believe should definitely be fought with the tourist police.
In Mappatella three young girls had their cell phones stolen. Only on Friday morning, on the same beach, the Carabinieri arrested some thieves caught red-handed while I was there. It is undoubtedly necessary to provide a permanent presence of law enforcement to ensure safety by keeping bad guys at bay.
In Largo Sermoneta we had to request the intervention of the Municipal Police due to the presence of dozens of scooters parked on the sidewalks, many of which were immediately moved by their owners.
But at the same time we appreciated the operators of Asia busy emptying the bins and the new buoys placed for the safety of the bathers. Good checks by the Police and Carabinieri at the Spiaggia delle Monache, which was overflowing with people. We can only imagine the conditions of dirt and degradation in which it will be at sunset.
We need to schedule cleaning shifts to prevent the beach from becoming a landfill every weekend, with waste being swallowed up by the sea. We need to protect our natural heritage, take care of our beaches and ensure the safety of those who use them. The goal is to implement services and make them accessible to everyone on every free beach in the city”.
This was stated by the Green Left-Green Alliance MP, Francesco Emilio Borrelli, at the end of an inspection of the Neapolitan beaches with municipal councilors Gianni Caselli and Lorenzo Pascucci and municipal councilor Benedetta Sciannimanica.
