Naples' underground artistic heritage is enriched with a new gem. This morning, the San Pasquale station on Line 6 of the subway was inaugurated, built by Webuild on behalf of the Municipality of Naples and Hitachi Rail, the concessionaire of the work. Located in the heart of the Riviera di Chiaia, the San Pasquale station becomes a crucial hub in the city's mobility system, allowing you to reach the Piazza Amedeo station on Line 2, the Chiaia Funicular and the Caracciolo seafront in just a few minutes. The new station also connects the central districts of Chiaia and San Ferdinando to the city's subway network.
An elevator directly connects the station with the Villa Comunale di Napoli, home to the Anton Dohrn zoological station and the Aquarium, offering easy access to this large urban park dating back to the late 1700s. The construction of the stop also allowed the redevelopment of Largo Pignatelli, transformed into a new square enriched with benches, green spaces and new tree species.
The station, designed by the Italian-Slovenian architect Boris Podrecca and enriched with works by the Austrian artist Peter Kogler, is spread over five levels, with a structure 100 meters long and 35 meters high. It was designed to evoke a dive into the sea, with blue panels simulating waves and a metal net in the shape of a sail, equipped with information monitors on the main cultural events of the city. The simulated portholes on the corten walls, reminiscent of an ancient vessel, also act as lighting points for the platform level.
Line 6, which extends for 5,5 kilometers with 8 stations, connects the populous Fuorigrotta neighborhood with Piazza Municipio, creating new interconnections with the existing metro lines: Line 1 at Municipio, Line 2 at the Mergellina and Mostra stations, and with the Cumana Railway at Mostra station.
Webuild, protagonist of the construction of Line 1 with ten of the current nineteen stations in operation, continues its commitment in Naples with the construction of the Capodichino station on Line 1 and the Bretella di Monte Sant'Angelo (Line 7), which includes the Monte Sant'Angelo and Parco San Paolo stations. The group is also doubling the Cumana Railway Line between the Dazio and Cantieri stations.
