The Provincial Command of the Guardia di Finanza of Naples has seized over 478.000 products, including “counterfeit” and/or “unsafe” products, in a series of checks carried out across the city and the metropolitan area in preparation for the Halloween celebrations.
Thirty people were identified: 30 of them were reported to the Judicial Authority for trading in products with false markings and receiving stolen goods, while another 4 were reported to the Chamber of Commerce for administrative violations. The people involved, owners of individual businesses, were active in the retail trade of toys, costume jewelry and household items.
In particular, the Frattamaggiore Group seized in Casoria and Caivano, in separate operations, over 350.000 items, including balloons, masks and iconic costumes that were unsafe for health, especially for children, and lacking the information note in Italian on the characteristics of the product. Five managers were administratively reported, two of whom are Chinese nationals, managers of the activities subjected to control.
In Naples, between the industrial area and the Vomero district, as well as in Portici and on the island of Ischia, the I Group Naples seized over 73.000 items such as pencils, erasers, key rings and masks related to the holiday, because they were counterfeit and lacked the CE mark and labels in Italian with information for consumers. Four responsible parties were reported and six others administratively reported.
In the Oplontina area, in the municipalities of Pompei, Gragnano and Sorrento, the controls of the Torre Annunziata Group led to the withdrawal from the market of over 25.000 items including masks, decorations and themed gadgets, with the administrative reporting of 6 other subjects.
The Guardia di Finanza operation extended throughout the Province of Naples, from Nolano (Nola, Ottaviano and Pomigliano d'Arco) to the Flegrea Area (Villaricca, Pozzuoli, Giugliano in Campania and Monte di Procida), allowing the seizure of a further 30.000 unsafe products and the reporting of 9 responsible parties.
Countering the spread of products that do not comply with safety standards means not only ensuring the protection of consumers, especially minors, but also safeguarding a fair and competitive market for honest economic operators.
