Carmine D'Ambrosio unveils a suggestive work with great symbolic meaning. The Neapolitan artist, known for his bronze works exhibited in various cities and institutions in Campania, presents “Manus DEA”, a work that contains a universal message of protection and life.

A special gift for Pope Francis

D'Ambrosio announced his intention to donate the work to Pope Francis, explaining that “Manus DEA” wants to highlight the importance of defending human life. The title of the work is an acronym that recalls the deities of the main monotheisms: God for Christians, Ĕlōhīm for Jews and Allāh for Muslims.

Reflections on a troubled world

The idea for “Manus DEA” was born from a discussion between the artist and the stylist Vincenzo Anatriello, inspired by the tensions and conflicts of the Holy Land in the Middle East. The work depicts a divine hand that protects, a symbol of hope for the sacredness of the family and for children who suffer in conflict zones, such as Palestine.

An innovator of the sculptural tradition

Carmine D'Ambrosio has gained recognition for his works that combine respect for the artistic tradition of Campania with an innovative approach to the human figure. His best-known works include bronze installations and reproductions of icons of classical art, such as the Veiled Christ, and figures from the 17th-century nativity scene tradition. The artist works with various materials, including bronze, stone, wood and ceramic, exhibiting both monumental and smaller-scale works in galleries and museums such as the MAN in Naples. His work is appreciated nationally, demonstrating a continuous research in the field of sculpture.

Carmine D'Ambrosio's work is very intriguing, but I don't know if the message is very clear for everyone. Protecting life is important, but the choice to donate it to Pope Francis might seem a bit forced to some. The sculpture looks beautiful.
