Il Distant Worlds Short Film Festival, now in its fifth edition, debuts in the Campania capital with a varied program full of stories from all over the world. The film event will be held on 28 and 29 November 2024 at the Cinema Modernissimo in Napoli, marking a new chapter for the event, previously held in Scario and San Giovani a Piro, Cilento.

The festival will present eight international short films, offered in their original language with Italian subtitles. The selected works include “Nocturnal Burger” by Reema Maya, set in Mumbai, which explores the dynamics of power in a police station. “Fatih the Conqueror” by Onur Yagi tells the story of a young man who finds the courage to express his love during a Turkish wedding. “Yellow” by Elham Ehsas offers a glimpse into a woman’s struggle under the Taliban regime. “Suleyman,” by directors Mehdi and Yanis Hamnane, narrates the intertwined lives of a Senegalese migrant and a young man on probation in the suburbs of Paris. “Beyond the Sea” by Hippolyte Leibovici delves into the world of a sixty-year-old drag queen through an unexpected last performance. Other works in the selection include “Sakhisona” by Prantik Basu, an immersion in Bengali folklore; “Flow and Ebb” by Janis Westphal explores loss and friendship between fishermen; Nicolas Gebbe’s “The Sunset Special 2” invites us to reflect on the consumerist illusions of a luxury cruise.
Collateral events and exhibitions
The festival will kick off on November 28th at 19:30 pm with the inauguration of the photographic exhibition “Isole” by Mario Spada, supervised by Roberta Fuorvia. The screenings of the short films will begin that evening and will continue on November 29th at 21:00 pm. The festival catalogue, available during the inauguration, will include in-depth information on the films and the photographic exhibition, which will remain open to the public until Sunday, December 1st. The Mondi Lontani Short Film Festival was made possible thanks to the contribution of the Film Commission Regione Campania and the Campania Region, produced by Il Varco, in collaboration with Aedon Cultura and The Docks APS, and supported by Iemme Edizioni, CFI Napoli and Memento Cinema.
