A dangerous and unfair practice is spreading in Naples: drivers who follow the ambulances to avoid city traffic. Not only do they break the highway code, but they often film the entire scene with their cell phones, then sharing the videos on social media as if it were a reason to boast.

A citizen's complaint: video sent to Borrelli
The episode was reported by a citizen who sent the video of one of these behaviors directly to Francesco Emilio Borrelli, a regional councilor who has always been attentive to issues related to urban decay and civic sense. In the video, you can clearly see a driver who is queuing up behind an ambulance with sirens blaring, taking advantage of the free passage between the cars in the queue.
"This attitude - commented Borrelli - is the emblem of a lack of respect for others and for the rules. Those who behave in this way not only hinder rescue operations, but put the lives of all road users at risk".
A dangerous trend spreading on social media
What is most worrying is the growing trend of documenting these actions on social media, where videos of drivers “following” ambulances garner views and ironic comments. This only fuels the idea that this is smart and acceptable behavior, rather than a serious and irresponsible offense.
Ambulances, busy responding to emergencies, must be able to move quickly and without obstacles. Anyone who gets in their wake risks slowing down their progress or, worse, causing accidents.
The request for greater controls and sanctions
Francesco Emilio Borrelli asked the police to intensify checks and severely punish those caught in similar behavior. “We need exemplary sanctions,” he said, “and awareness campaigns that make people understand how serious these actions are. Naples cannot allow itself to tolerate such uncivilized behavior.”
The hope is that through public denunciations and greater attention from the authorities, we can stem a phenomenon that represents yet another sign of an increasingly fragile respect for the rules of civil coexistence.

It is true that this practice is very dangerous and it is not right, but I do not understand why people do these things. Maybe they think it is funny but in reality it puts everyone in danger. They should think about it.
