On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the birth of Mario Musella, iconic voice of the Showmen, a new version of the famous song “Un'ora sola ti vorrei” will be made available on all digital platforms on April 1st. This musical tribute honors an artist who has profoundly influenced the history of Italian music.
Musella and her musical impact
The new interpretation of the 1938 classic, composed by Umberto Bertini and Paola Marchetti, is performed by Sabba (Salvatore Lampitelli), with the participation of a group of talented musicians. Among them: Sasà Mendoza on Rhodes piano & synth, Fredy Malfi on drums, Dario Franco on bass, Corrado Paonessa on guitar and Enzo Anastasio on tenor sax. The mixing and recording at RR Sound were handled by Pietro De Asmundis, with executive production by SuonidelSud, Claudio Niola, Antonio De Guglielmo and Renato De Santis.
The Showmen and the legendary success
The song “Un'ora sola ti vorrei” became an extraordinary success with the Showmen, winners of the Cantagiro 68. The album sold 500.000 copies and led RCA Italiana to launch the group's first LP, cementing their status as icons of Italian music.
Mario Musella's career was marked by numerous successes, including "Gloria, ricchezza e te" and "Mi sei entra nel cuore". His premature death, which occurred on October 6, 1979, left a significant void in the music scene.
Initiatives in honor of Musella
SuonidelSud celebrated Mario Musella through various initiatives, such as the award dedicated to him and the album “Arrivederci” with unreleased songs. In his honor, a public park was named in his hometown, and in Marano di Napoli, a street near the stadium and the Palazzetto dello Sport bears his name.
