Giugliano – A video showing a violent fight between young people is making the rounds on social media, sparking indignation and concern. The episode occurred yesterday evening in Giugliano, in Piazza Gramsci, where two groups of very young people faced each other with kicks and punches, generating panic among passers-by.
Chaos broke out in a busy area, especially in the evening hours. Many people were walking when the fight degenerated into a physical fight. The police intervened quickly, but by the time they arrived, the perpetrators had already disappeared. The images shared online, however, could prove decisive in identifying them.
The episode has brought the spotlight back on safety in an area that has already been the subject of numerous reports. Residents have long been reporting the situation in Piazza Gramsci and Via Iodice – an adjacent road that runs alongside the “Mena Morlando” elementary school – which has become an evening meeting place for young people riding scooters at full speed, challenging each other in real dangerous races. Added to this are the night-time noises that disturb the rest of the citizens.
The protests are not new: appeals, complaints and requests to close via Iodice to traffic have been going on for months, but the situation has remained virtually unchanged. After the resignation of the previous municipal administration, residents are now confident in a decisive intervention by the prefectural commissioner who will lead the Municipality until the next elections.
Meanwhile, concern is growing about a context increasingly perceived as out of control, especially by parents and families in the area.
