Naples – They call themselves “parking attendants,” but they don’t do anything on guard. The illegal parking attendants in the Coroglio area of Bagnoli now only demand protection money for a parking space. And those who refuse to pay risk having their car vandalized.
Article Key Points
It happened to a group of young people who, after a night at the disco, found their car with broken windows and a devastated interior. Despite having "entrusted" the car to one of the illegal parking lot managers in the by-night area of via Coroglio, some thieves managed to burgle it without any problems.
“If you don't pay, they tell you to move”
“The fact is that if you don’t pay them, they order you to move your car,” the owner of the car told the Green-Sinister Alliance MP Francesco Emilio Borrelli. “In front of the discos they are numerous and very aggressive.”
A situation that has been going on for years, with streets transformed into fiefdoms managed by gangs of illegal parking attendants. “In Bagnoli and Coroglio the streets are militarily patrolled by hordes of illegal parking attendants who create chaos to occupy every available space,” Borrelli reports. “Citizens must respect the highway code and report racketeering, but they must also be protected by the institutions.”
The request: zero tolerance and strict controls
The MP relaunches the appeal for a crackdown: "We ask once again for zero tolerance towards these extortionists, with increased controls in areas now well known to the police. Without regulatory changes, however, the phenomenon will remain unpunished".
A plague that continues to grow, while proposals to combat it end up in oblivion. And in the meantime, those who pay the highest price are always the drivers, forced to choose between blackmail and the risk of finding their car destroyed.

This is a really bad situation, illegal parking attendants should not exist. I have seen many times that people are scared and do not know what to do. The institutions must intervene to stop this practice.
