Cagliari– A 39-year-old man from Naples was arrested this morning at the port of Cagliari with over a kilo of cocaine hidden in shower gel bottles.
The operation began at dawn as part of an extraordinary control service organized by the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri to combat drug trafficking from the Peninsula.
The raid took place at the time of the disembarkation of a ferry arriving from Naples. Carabinieri of the Cagliari Company, together with the Canine Unit and the Operations Section, noticed the particular interest of the drug-sniffing dog towards a passenger and his luggage.
The inspection confirmed the suspicions: inside some bottles of personal hygiene products were hidden over one hundred ovules of cocaine, for a total weight of about 1,1 kilograms. According to the investigators' estimates, the substance could have brought in tens of thousands of euros on the local market.
The man, domiciled outside Sardinia and already known to the police, was arrested by order of the Public Prosecutor's Office of Cagliari and taken to the prison of Uta. The investigations continue to identify any accomplices and reconstruct the entire trafficking chain.
