Andrea Zambella
A sudden illness, followed by a collapse at just 31 years old, has marked the passing of Andrea Zambella, a Caserta native already well-known in the city's judicial news. The tragedy unfolded this afternoon inside a home on Via Eleuterio Ruggiero, near Ises Park.
According to initial reconstructions being examined by investigators, the young man was at home when, immediately after leaving the bathroom, he collapsed to the floor unconscious.
Bystanders immediately called 118. Paramedics, who quickly arrived on the scene, found a desperate medical condition, suggestive of cardiac arrest. After performing CPR on the scene, the crew arranged for an emergency transfer to the Emergency Room of the Sant'Anna and San Sebastiano Hospital in Caserta.
All further attempts by doctors to save him from death proved futile: the 31-year-old's heart stopped beating shortly after arriving at the medical facility.
The body has been released to the judicial authorities, who will order an autopsy to definitively determine the cause of his sudden death. Zambella's name was not unknown to the prosecutor's office: arrested in 2021 along with 12 other people, he was believed by investigators to be the leader of a 24-hour emergency network of young drug dealers operating in the working-class neighborhoods of the capital.
In 2022, the preliminary hearing judge of the Naples Court had sentenced him to 14 years and 8 months in prison in the first instance; the 31-year-old was currently awaiting the appeal hearing.
The news of his death sparked moments of intense tension in the emergency room. Relatives and acquaintances of the young man, arriving at the hospital, reportedly exchanged verbal arguments with medical staff and emergency responders, necessitating the prompt intervention of police and Carabinieri patrols to restore calm and secure the facility. Andrea Zambella leaves behind a wife and young daughter.
