Naples, tourist harassed in Marechiaro: hunt for the brute

Naples – State Police investigators have launched a full-blown manhunt along the Marechiaro coastline. At the center of the investigation is a young Neapolitan man accused of sexually abusing a thirty-four-year-old woman, a German citizen of Colombian origin, who had come to Naples for a few days' vacation.

The incident, which occurred on August 26th in Posillipo, unfolded behind the scenes of a polite gesture: the woman was struggling to climb out of the water toward the dock when a group of three young men approached her and offered her a hand. It was at that moment, taking advantage of the victim's vulnerability, that one of the young men allegedly groped her private parts.

The rescue and the complaint

While the tourist's friend was at the beach with her, she stopped at the beach bar, and managed to get away and contact an acquaintance who lived in the Posillipo area. The man immediately reached her, offering her initial emotional support before accompanying her to the emergency room at Fatebenefratelli Hospital for routine checkups.

From the health facility, the next step was the complaints office of the Naples Police Headquarters, where the thirty-four-year-old formalized a detailed account of the attack, assisted by criminal lawyer Arcangelo Caiazzo.

The puzzle of the cameras

The investigation is being handled by officers from the General Prevention Office and colleagues from the Posillipo Police Station. Investigators are focusing on footage from public and private video surveillance systems near the marina and along the escape routes of the seaside village.

The initial images acquired, however, have not yet provided sufficient clarity to allow for the definitive identification of the alleged attacker and his two accomplices present at the incident. For this reason, the police are narrowing the investigation by cross-referencing technical findings with statements from residents and swimmers present on the cliff that morning.

The return to Germany

In the meantime, the thirty-four-year-old has left Italy and returned to her hometown in Germany, where she has begun supportive therapy with specialists at a women's violence prevention center. The trauma from the attack remains unresolved, as her lawyer emphasizes: "My client has undertaken psychological counseling," explained Arcangelo Caiazzo, "and doctors have confirmed that after suffering such abuse, it is a common reaction to experience fear of men and a fear of the dark." Meanwhile, the prosecutor's office is continuing its investigation into the case to close the loop on the perpetrator of the attack.
