De Laurentiis responded: "No sexist comments about Schlein; it was a political comment."

Napoli – Aurelio De Laurentiis intervenes to clarify the meaning of the comments addressed to Elly Schlein, which have been at the center of political controversy in recent hours. The Napoli president, in a message published on X, rejects the accusation of having made a sexist comment and asserts the exclusively political nature of his assessment.

"I read that I made a sexist comment about Elly Schlein, calling her 'unwatchable' in a casual chat with a group of acquaintances. Far be it from me to be considered sexist. My reference was intended solely from a political perspective," De Laurentiis writes.

The comment was made on the sidelines of a Forza Italia meeting at the Hotel De Bonart in Naples and sparked reactions from Democratic Party members. Senator Valeria Valente challenged the party leader's comments, calling them a judgment on her physical appearance and not a criticism of the Democratic Party secretary's political actions.

In his clarification, De Laurentiis explains that he takes issue with what he sees as the opposition's attitude, and in particular, the lack of discussion on its proposals. "The opposition's ideas and political vision may be appreciated by those in government, but if every time they fuel conflict, then it becomes tiresome and therefore risks becoming 'unwatchable,'" he adds.

The Napoli president also claims that Schlein should have "sat down at the political table," rather than, in his opinion, simply expressing dissent. This reconstruction doesn't put an end to the case, with the Democratic Party (PD) continuing to consider the original statement unacceptable.
