Scafati. The military of the Station Carabinieri The Forestry Corps of Sarno, alerted by the 112 Operations Centre, went to a bakery to verify a report regarding the use of painted wood as fuel for baking bread.
Once at the commercial establishment that also carries out baking activities, the military, assisted by technicians from the ASL of Angri, inspected the premises used as a local business and as an artisan laboratory for fresh and dry baked goods.
In the laboratory, the military found special waste deriving from wood processing (painted, veneered and otherwise treated wood, pallet fragments) ready to be used inside the ovens as fuel and other painted wood stored in boxes intended for the same use; other boxes, all containing the same type of special waste, were located in the external area pertaining to the bakery.

Request for documents relating to the origin of the waste found and invoices for the purchase of firewood as fuel for the ovens, the owner was unable to produce documentation proving the origin of the materials or the purchase of wood.
Following the investigation, the military seized eight containers full of special waste and two piles of special waste (painted, veneered and otherwise treated wood, pallet fragments), and also seized 350 kg of baked goods (fresh bread, rusks, taralli and freselle).
The owner of the establishment was reported to the AG for unauthorized management of special waste and for preparation of food substances with harmful treatment; the bakery activity was banned by order of the health authority.
