Vaccines: in Campania doses for 74% of prisoners
I detainees vaccinated in Campania to date there are 4848 out of a population of 6570 (74% of the total). 33 young people from Nisida and Airola and 52 out of 54 inmates at the military prison of Santa Maria Capua Vetere have also been vaccinated. In Poggioreale 1143 inmates out of 2124, in Secondigliano 973 out of 1082, at the women's prison of Pozzuoli 132 inmates out of 144. And again at the prison of Benevento 305 inmates out of 352, in Avellino 383 out of 430, while in Salerno 259 out of 401.
Data provided by the guarantor of prisoners Samuele Ciambriello. “Prison,” Ciambriello emphasizes, “is a community of pain that brings together agents, operators, volunteers and prisoners, often able to teach those who are outside a sense of sacrifice, responsibility and hope for redemption. It is a place of community in which the well-being of each person feeds that of all. If there is one story that we have learned from the pandemic, it is that the story of each person cannot be separated from the story of all.”
“I am grateful – he concludes – to the health facilities for the work they have done and are doing, also using the code Stp (foreigners temporarily present) to vaccinate many immigrants and many undocumented prisoners present in prisons.
The confinements imposed by Covid 19 have fueled anxiety, fear, and forms of self-harm in prisons. What emerges is a world that is often forgotten, sometimes removed, perhaps considered marginal, but which, if you think about it, represents the mirror of the vices and virtues of our society”.
