The Court of Assizes of Santa Maria Capua Vetere (president Roberto Donatiello, associate judge Alessandro De Santis) has acquitted the doctor and head physician of the Cardarelli hospital in Naples, former mayor of Capua, Carmine Antropoli for whom the deputy prosecutor Maurizio Giordano had requested, at the end of his closing speech, ten years of imprisonment.
For Antropoli, defended by lawyers Mauro Iodice and Vincenzo Maiello, in February 2019, the investigators requested and obtained from the investigating judge a precautionary custody order. The judges also acquitted the defendants Marco Ricci and Guido Taglialatela of the same charge.
Antropoli was however convicted for the crime of private violence (one year and eight months). Finally, a harsh sentence for the collaborator of justice Francesco Zagaria, the main accused of Antropoli, who was sentenced to 17 years and 3 months of imprisonment for murder and other minor crimes, compared to a request by the prosecutor for 8 years and six months.
"I have never lost faith in justice. Finally the Court of Assizes has given me back my dignity. I thank my lawyers Iodice and Maiello for the human closeness shown to me in this sad story", said Antropoli.
