The Municipal Police of Naples, in light of the checks carried out in the municipal property on Via Egiziaca in Pizzofalcone, proceeded to wall up the vacated apartment to avoid the risk of illegal occupation, thus preventing access, and seized the home.
The measure comes after the woman's story came to light yesterday, Carlotta T., a 90-year-old former teacher, evicted from her home by a family of squatters after leaving the apartment at Via Egiziaca 35 to undergo medical tests.
When she returned home on November 25, the elderly woman found her furniture abandoned in the street, and the door locks changed. Since then - despite commitments and promises to restore legality by local and national authorities - she has not been able to return to her home and lives with a niece in the province of Avellino.
When the municipal police officers raided the apartment at via Egiziaca 35 they found it empty. In fact, the squatters, presumably due to the media hype the story had caused, had already left.
The police were able to verify that renovation work had been carried out inside by the same illegal occupants, while all the furnishings belonging to the woman had been devastated or thrown away.
The previous apartment was almost destroyed. With today's intervention, the Municipal Police executed a seizure order issued pursuant to Article 321 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, in order to preserve the property from further intrusions.
