The mayor of Benevento Clemente Mastella he asked for the recognition of the state of natural disaster for the wave of bad weather that affected the territory of his city in the period between Tuesday 17 and Saturday 21 January.
In the request – sent to the President of the Regional Council, to the head of the Regional Civil Protection, to the President of the Province of Benevento, to the Civil Engineering Department of Benevento and for information to the Prefect of Benevento – the mayor highlights “the serious damage to the road system” caused by the violent rainfall and strong gusts of wind both in the city centre and in the peripheral areas.
In the districts, in particular, there were landslides and mudslides and in some of them the flooding of the Calore river. The damage caused by the disturbances, of an extent far greater than expected, was heavy especially in some rural areas of the city. To deal with the emergency and mitigate the inconveniences, the Municipality made use of specialized private companies with a significant increase in costs for the municipal coffers”.
Mastella therefore urges the allocation of exceptional resources to cover the expenses incurred, restore the state of the places and carry out hydrogeological prevention activities.
