To make matters more complicated, the lady, who had just woken up from a coma, was given an inadequate meal instead of being fed liquids, as per protocol.
Even more tragic is the information that the daughter learns half an hour later when another doctor tells her that her mother had “choked” on that morsel she had ingested, going into respiratory apnea and then cardiac arrest, the latter causing serious irreversible brain damage.
The woman died several days later, in intensive care, without ever waking up and the children, convinced that something had gone wrong, filed a complaint, the same day their mother died, contesting manslaughter and negligent personal injury.
