This morning, soldiers from the Carabinieri Ecological Operations Unit of Ancona in collaboration with the Environmental Protection Group of Rome and Naples, are executing eight non-custodial precautionary measures, issued by the GIP of Court of Ancona against eight individuals involved in the crime of organised illegal waste trafficking, relating to the recovery of waste used vegetable oils.
The complex investigative activity is directed by the District Anti-Mafia Directorate of Ancona and Naples, with the coordination of the National Anti-Mafia and Anti-Terrorism Directorate.
Searches and seizures are underway in the provinces of Ascoli Piceno, Napoli, Bari and Pescara.
The illegal activity also consisted in the perpetration of aggravated thefts of used vegetable oils, classified as non-hazardous liquid waste, of high commercial value due to the incentives linked to the final production of biofuel.
The investigations are aimed at countering a major criminal phenomenon which, with the aggravating circumstance of facilitating Camorra criminal associations, was involved in the illicit trafficking of illegally treated waste oils, of significant commercial value and with serious environmental impact.
